Chinese smartphone maker and telecommunication giant Huawei has recently unveiled its top-of-the-line smartphone series that rivals that of Samsung and Apple, the P30 series. Huawei P30 will have 6/128 GB memory, while the P30 Pro will have 8/128 GB as a base.

The latest smartphone from Huawei is available in the regular P30 and the much premium P30 Pro. Both models sports Leica-engineered cameras that reportedly can zoom 30 times (P30) and 50 times (P30 Pro).

The P30 Pro model has a 40 megapixel f/1.6 main camera, secondary 20 megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 8 megapixel 10x hybrid zoom lens. Huawei P30 has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, while the P30 Pro has 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage capacity.

Since this is Huawei's top of the line phone, expect that the base model will be priced ranging from Php 40,000.00 to Php 50,000.00 when it is finally available locally.

Boracay never became boring even after the six-month closure. True, there was a major clean up along the 4 km-stretch white beach, but that is for the good of the island as well as the tourists who wanted to enjoy the fine sand and sun without the distractions of commerce.

There are still a lot of activities you can join even at night, especially if you love to party. Even if you are alone or with your friends and co-workers, you can have the best night of your stay in Boracay and you wouldn't need to spend that much!

We definitely recommend that you join Boracay's own Pubcrawl. Boracay PubCrawl offers travellers the chance to party as a group. You can discover the best night spots and make new friends as well while having a great evening out. You will also get free shots plus the best drink deals at every club that you stop. And you do not need to take a selfie as a professional photographer is along with you to document the epic night!

To get your Boracay Pubcrawl pass in advance (because trust me, they get sold out really fast), you can check out Klook at https://www.klook.com.

Outside the company, the recipient of your products and services, the patients, are the most important. At least in the true sense of the word ethical marketing is concerned. Since we are dealing with lives, our job is to provide the decision makers (physicians) with accurate information about the drug that we promote so that they can properly administer it to their patients. Back then, the power of deciding which medicine to take rests on the Physicians. But now, with the advent of patent expiration of most popular drugs and the introduction of its generic
yet equally potent copies, patients can choose which brand suits to their needs.

Before you get to the doctors, you will encounter them. They are the Medical Secretary. Their job is to facilitate doctor-patient consultation. And yes, they serve as your gateway to your customer. Sometimes, they have can decide who to cover and when to cover. It is much better to establish a good rapport with them because you may need their help in the future. They might give their boss, the doctor, a good word or two about you. Some Med Reps gives a gift, token or gimmicks to these secretaries. That is one good strategy to win their hearts.

Out in the field, you will encounter other Med Reps from other companies, local and multinational, that may be your direct competitor. As with this business, interpersonal and relationship skills plays a big role. It is not just you are competing with the product that they are carrying, you are competing with the doctor’s attention as well. Allowing Med Reps to cover the physicians in between patient consultations allows the physicians to vent some stress by taking their minds off momentarily from what they are doing. What do you think will happen if the next Med Rep that covers him has no pleasing personality?

Whenever you visit a drugstore to check the movement of your products, the people you will encounter are the pharmacy assistants or clerks. Relationship skills are important when you deal with them. They may choose not to entertain you if you have no pleasing personality at all. They have the right to discriminate; after all, they have better things to do. But they are very important. If you have established a good relationship with them, they may help you push your product or exchange the brand of your competitors to yours. The same thing with their supervisor, pharmacist or owner: these are the decision makers. They decide if they will order from you and what quantity.

This article is intended for all patients.

On behalf of all those people working in the pharmaceutical industry, our sincere apologies. We do understand all your sentiments and if we were on your shoes, we will feel exactly the same.

Medreps are just like salesmen, but instead of physically selling medicines to the doctors, they sell the merits of the product that they are promoting. The features and benefits of the brand are what convince the doctor to prescribe that product to a specific patients type or condition.

Ngayon, bakit andami-daming Medrep? And mostly, they are the one who did the research and development as well as marketing. As technology and manufacturing capabilities improve, the number of drug companies also increases. Fast forward to present times, even before the Cheaper Medicines law came into effect, there are several Filipino companies are engaged in manufacturing, importing and/or distributing pharmaceutical products. Dagdagan mo pa ang pagpasok ng mga pharmaceutical companies from India and other countries, which all of them wanted a slice sa growing market ng Pilipinas.

The Philippine pharmaceutical industry has contributed thousands upon thousands of jobs, and the majority of that workforce are field personnel, which in turn contribute to the economy of the country. So, pag may nakikita kang Medrep, konting pasensya.

MANILA, Philippines - Facebook has committed another security nightmare. Facebook confirmed yesterday, March 21, that millions and millions of passwords were compromised as the social media giant had all our passwords stored in its servers were not encrypted. In fact, the passwords were stored just as it is, plain text.

Usually, passwords are stored and automatically encrypted so as they are not easily compromised by hackers. But a bug in Facebook's password management systems caused hundreds of millions of passwords for Facebook, Facebook Light, and Instagram to be stored in text and criminals can easily search through the server and get access to your social media accounts.

Facebook has already corrected the system and has notified its users to immediately change their passwords. To change your passwords using a desktop computer, go to SETTINGS, then to SECURITY and LOGIN, and CHANGE PASSWORD. For mobile devices, go to SETTINGS & PRIVACY, then SETTINGS, then to SECURITY and LOGIN, and CHANGE PASSWORD.

As a Professional Medical Representative, your immediate superior is the District Sales Manager. District Sales Managers usually handle about three or more territories. Their job is to manage you to perform your best and deliver the sales.

Salesmen are your counterpart in the field. You create the demand; they will deliver the products and collect the payments. Some companies outsource the sales part and some don’t. The popular sales business outsourcing companies are ZuelligPharma and Metro Drug.

But you must not rely totally on your salesman. Some salesmen have other principals or companies that they serve. When I was a Medical Representative under Merck Sharp and Dohme, my salesman has more than twenty principals! The salesman cannot give preference to all of you at once. Just like you, he has his own monthly quota. He or she may prioritize fast moving products and those products are not necessarily yours.

The District Sales Managers are the mini-bosses. They have a team of Medical Representatives working for him. They do mostly coaching and support in order for each of their people deliver the sales. District Managers report to the Regional Sales Manager (if it is a large organization) or directly to the National Sales Manager (in the case of a small organization).

Product or Brand Managers are the brand champions. They provide the whole marketing strategy for the assigned brand. They plan and strategize the whole marketing concern: from the number of MedReps needed, how many doctors to cover and what type of promotional tools to use in order to achieve the target. After all, the sales target for the whole brand is on his shoulder. In a complex organization, Product Managers report directly to the Marketing Manager or Group Product Manager.

In some companies, training is also handled by Product Managers. But with big companies, there is a specific group that handles it. The training and development group is a collaboration of Human Resources, Marketing Department and Medical Affairs which makes sure that the field force, from line managers to reps, has adequate training in the field of business and medical science.

There is a special position that specifically handles Continuing Medical Education. They are called CME Managers. They facilitate the planning and implementation of scientific lectures and roundtable discussions. They also coordinate with key medical societies when it comes to participation to some of its programs such as regional or national conventions.  The CME Manager may advise people who are interested in continuing education to find out more about Healthcare Degrees on Guide to Healthcare Schools.

Local companies have a far simpler structure. Usually, the owner sits on the top, juggling General Manager, Sales Manager and Marketing Manager functions, where District Sales Manager, and sometimes Professional Medical Representatives, report to them.

Netflix is the leading streaming site with hundreds upon hundreds of movies, TV shows and documentaries in its library. And if you have a high-speed internet connection, subscribing to Netflix is a must.

Netflix produces its own TV series and big-budget movies to be exclusively streamed on its site. There are three subscription rate for you to choose from: BASIC, STANDARD and PREMIUM.

Netflix will charge your credit card a fixed amount every month, depending on the type of subscription you choose. You also have the freedom to upgrade or downgrade depending on your needs. So, a year's accumulated cost for a BASIC Netflix subscription non-HD is P4,440.00, but you can only watch on one screen (either on a smart TV or your mobile phone app). For STANDARD subscription, the annual cost is P5,520.00 and you can watch HD on two smart TVs, or two mobile apps, or a TV and an app, at the same time. For the PREMIUM subscription, it is pricier at P6,600.00 but you can watch on four screens at Ultra High Definition.

But did you know that you can have a year-long Netflix subscription for less than P1,000.00? I was browsing Lazada for an Android TV device one day when I saw several product listings that offer a subscription to different apps and streaming sites, including Netflix, for an unbelievable rate that was too good to be true. There are different stores that offer different subscription rates for different Netflix service. I got a STANDARD Netflix subscription for P700.00 a year and so far (I'm 3 months in), it's good. You just have to read all the reviews and hope that it is legit.

But here's the kicker: the account is not yours. You are sharing it with another. So, if the account has two screens available, you can only use one because the other person might be using it, too. Yes, that's a bummer. You cannot also change the settings as it may affect the account.

There are other services available in Lazada. There are subscriptions for HBO Now (for just P699.00 per year), Hulu (P200.00-300.00 per year), Crunchyroll (watch anime for 299.00 per year) and several others. But before you pay to any services posted in Lazada, make sure you read the reviews, and subscribe at your own risk.

The medical secretaries are considered one of the gatekeepers in our profession. They serve as the first line of defense of doctors towards the patients and of course, the medical representatives. They make sure that the patients were scheduled and treated properly. They also make sure that Medreps only see the doctor when there are no patients yet or to make sure that the doctor adheres to his appointments.

Maraming personality ang mga secretary and I know that you have encountered a lot of them. Based on my experience when I was a Medrep, there is a secretary na super sungit, pero kailangan mo siyang makita kasi top doctor ang alaga niya.

Secretaries are also an important source of information regarding your doctor, your competitors and the patients. They can provide invaluable insights that you cannot get from statistics and research.

And it is so easy to manage them!

Ultimately, if you don't pay extra attention to them and their quirks, they can make or break you.

"Philippines wants to import pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh" says the headline from the news site The Financial Express in a recent report.

The Financial Express reported that the Philippine government, through Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T Bandillo, has expressed its interest to import pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh among other things. Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi gave the information after his meeting with the Philippine Ambassador on Wednesday.

According to the report, Bangladesh exported to the Philippines products worth $ 47.04 million against the import of worth $ 8.07 million as of the fiscal year 2017-2018.

In my opinion, that is a huge trade gap! Our country should develop our own pharmaceutical industry so that we can be self-reliant. Our government seems only focused on providing a quick fix to some of our country's problems. Just look at the agricultural sector (the government solution is to import rice to address shortage), and now our pharmaceutical industry! What is happening here?

I do believe that there are brilliant Filipino scientists that are more than capable of turning our industry around. We just need to have the Government's will to really be the catalyst for change. Imagine our country being able to produce our own raw materials, then we can really be self-sufficient. Let's get to work guys!

We are proud to belong with our company that is why we proudly display or use any promotional materials that they produce.

Promotional materials or merchandise are defined as products branded with a logo and a slogan which are distributed to target customers to promote a brand or corporate identity. The costs of this swags or freebies range from minimal to no cost and sometimes premium costs.

Promotional materials that minimally costs are paper products, pens, office materials, etc. Premium promotional materials, on the other hand, are very limited and sometimes, the recipients are identified in advance. Some premium items such as sthetoscopes and BP apparatus, patient educational materials, car accessories, are distributed selectively.

So my suggestion to the Product Managers is allocate some to your Medical Representatives para hindi na sila pumipitik sa allocation nila! That way, they can enjoy this perk and so that they can proud showing it off to other people.

District Managers are actually in the best position to help you get more sales, especially if you are new to the territory or you only got 90% sales versus target and you're finding it difficult to get more. They have inside knowledge of where to get sales in your territory or how to upsell. That's why you should always ask for a work-with if you are on a sales drive.

I fondly remember my first boss. She was a very good sales person and an ideal boss. She's a very assertive person and knows the ins and out of my territory. We would go on sales-drives and manage to double the orders from drugstores and dispensing doctors. Her skills are something that is not taught in training sessions and can only be learned through experience and mentoring.

So guys, don't be afraid to ask for your manager's help even if there are no scheduled fieldwork in your area. It is part of her responsibility to help, assist and guide you. After all, your productivity reflects theirs. You just have to ensure that you have exhausted all efforts and asking her is the last resort. You also need to ensure that there's ample time for them to assist you.

Yup, in today's setting, malaking bagay ang "chika". Let's say na yung 10% detailing is the actual "selling" part or detailing, where you probe about the doctor's needs, do some benefit selling, and finally close. But yung chika part ay malalim.

It takes skills and a lot of hardwork to master the art of chika. Chika is the sum total of your personality, social awareness, and general information. Gets mo?

Kung mga inferior medicines nga can be prescribed, kasi "mabait" si Medrep and "masaya" pag andyan siya. What if you have the right product, and you are the right Medrep for the job, mas malaking chance na ma prescribe ang product mo.

When I was a Medrep, I had to go out of my way to understand golf and Formula 1 racing, because that was the two topic ang hilig ng magkakabarkadaing doctor na target ko. Research ginawa ko, mga bes! Aside from Google, I watched games and races on TV. I also bought my own Golf clubs and watched races in Subic!

This is a very sensitive topic, which happens not just in the pharmaceutical industry but also in other industry as well. There are managers that are very friendly and touchy-feely that are borderline sexual harassment, but not that much.

But if you feel that's the case yet you are uncomfortable speaking directly to your boss about it for fear of him getting back at you, it is better to talk to someone you really trust and get some advice.

It is better from the very start that you set your boundaries. You can always verbalize that you do not want other people touching you, even if it's a joke or for friendly reasons. Set an example from the very start and much better if you tell it to the group.

Ultimately, if you really feel uncomfortable and the boss tried it again, you have the right to make a proper complaint or notification with the HR. File a complaint if the boss really did something malicious, or you may instead ask for a re-assignment and you may confidentially share to HR your reasons behind for the request.

The Medrep's job starts in the morning. But there are a lot of things to be accomplished in the morning bago mag area. After shower, a Medrep opens his or her email to check for sales updates, company schedules and report requests.

I myself spend at least two hours for "admin" work. Yes, that is what I, and several others call it.

Every person has their own thing in the morning. There are some who finished all their "admin" work in the evening and spend an extra hour in bed in the morning.

Medrep: Heto boss, nasa daan na for drugstore monitoring!

Galing, diba? Then the Medrep will comeback to bed for another 30 minutes.

Yes Doc, we know. Pero maraming salamat sa Pharmaceutical industry because they provided jobs to thousands upon thousands of Filipinos.

These hard working Medreps will visit you every week to give you a chance to catch your breath sa dami ng trabaho niyo. Sometimes, they make you laugh. Sometimes, they give you snacks. But most of the time, they are there to remind you that you need a couple of minute of a break from a lengthy discussion with your patients.

And Medreps are not doing this because they need you. They are doing this for their families. Yes, it is their job, and their job help put food in the table, provide education to their kids, and once in a while, take a break themselves.

Just one prescription lang, Doc. Thank you very much.

Teka, let's try to see it from their point of view:

Ayan kasi, padating si kuya Medrep, pababa ng kanyang magandang kotse. At aba! Upon closer inspection, may magarang relos and may alahas.

Observe-observe muna. Give it time. Pahirapan nyo. Kasi if patient siya, he will stay. And i-verbalize mo yung condition na yan sa kanya. Okay?

Syempre, dapat graduate ka. But not necessarily that you should be a graduate of an allied medical course such as Nursing, Medtech or Biology. Sure there are companies that require that for specialized products. But majority of openings can hire you even if your course is Business, Education, Engineering, etc.

Ang mahalaga, you have the attitude to succeed. You are willing to go on fieldwork and you know how to drive. Plus points na if pogi or maganda ka. If you have past experience in service or retail, that's a big factor, because at least, you have some experience in customer service.

Many are still wondering kung ano ang trabaho ng isang Medrep. Here is the glamorous version.

Medical Representatives, or Medreps for short, is a person employed by pharmaceutical companies to persuade doctors to prescribe their drugs to patients. Medreps relay the drug's features and benefits to physicians, They also share results of various clinical studies pertaining to a disease, as well as the role of the drugs they are promoting in that disease. Medreps arrange product presentation or scientific discussion to physicians.

And hindi lang yan, marami pa! Specially dito sa Pilipinas, may mga masisipag na Medrep na they will go the extra mile para lang makuha ang reseta. Medreps will go on extreme lenghts like, driving the doctor and/or his family like an Uber driver. They bring them food whenever the physician says they are hungry, parang Food Panda. At marami pang iba.

To lead is not an easy task. You carry all the weight of the team to ensure your group's success. There is no such thing as a successful leader if you have a mediocre team or your team produce mediocre results. Some people wanted to become leaders because it greatly feed their egos. While some are just natural born leaders, without them knowing it.

But in today's professional environment, it is just natural for a Medrep to aspire greater things. When asked "how do you see yourself in the next five years?" the natural answer would be is to climb the leadership ladder within the organization.

Be a follower

If you want to lead others, you need to be a good example. And having the discipline to carry yourself as you want your counterparts to do. And that begins with learning to become a good follower. Yes, the District Manager is in charge, not you. Knowing and understanding your role within your district will help you understand the other's role as well. You can demonstrate the trait by always listening to instructions, become a contributor to the group's goal, and by being committed to the group.

Character

While each person may have different characteristics, there are specific traits that attract other people. Who they are and what they stand for are just some of the traits people want to listen and respect. Leaders who exhibited humility, compassion, and courage are trusted by their peers. Because these leaders know how to accept responsibility for their actions, and people know that the leader got their back. The leader also has the courage to stand up on what is right and the courage to accept defeat.

Communication

To become a good leader, one must know how to communicate effectively. There is no need to choose complicated words that can only be found in the dictionary.  In order to communicate effectively, one must be clear and concise. Words need not be preachy or intimidating. Communicate thing factually, short and sweet, so as not to waste anybody's time, but you also need to qualify if you get the message across.

Be an example

Be on time during meetings, submit your reports on time, and volunteering to provide market insights are just some of the examples where you can exhibit how you can lead by example. Being a senior Medrep, you have to become a good example among your juniors. You also need to exhibit confidence in how you communicate yourself to people, including management. Your body language will also need to match.

Inspire others

As a leader, you are in the best position to influence others, for them to aspire to become better themselves. If they are happy in their jobs and professional life, it means that they do not have problems with their leader. But in no means that you must show that you are perfect. Nobody's perfect, but seeing you aspiring to become a good leader and to elevate the whole team is inspiration enough for your co-Medreps follow your good example.

Before anything else, sell yourself first! Remember the market is being dominated by products having the same generic name with different brand names. Most of the products on the market today have been on the market for more than 5 years. The doctors know almost everything there is to know about these products.

Make an impression, a good impression. This could make or break your career. It’s always better to under promise and over delivers than over-promising and under-delivering. When you do the latter, some of your clients would feel offended. They will feel shortchanged. In short, never commit something that you cannot give. If for some unavoidable circumstance you would not be able to deliver on your promise, be strong, face your client and explain with all honesty and sincerity why you wouldn’t be able to deliver on your promise. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Selling Skills

Calls or coverage is a face to face interaction with your target customer, the physician, with a planned business objective done on a regular clinic day. The purpose of the call is to achieve the physicians’ commitment to continuously prescribe the product you are promoting by means of providing product information (action, indication, adverse effects, etc.) and quality customer service (uncovering needs, address concerns, etc.).

The call starts not on the actual visit but on the planning, usually outside the clinic. Pre-call is conducted in preparation for the actual call. Usually, a review of the past conversation is made and then formulating a new objective for the call. Pre-call should be made using the SMART format:

  S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Actionable
R – Results Oriented
T – Triggers Action

Pre-calls should include qualitative and quantitative objectives. In qualitative objectives, you may want to ask the doctor about his practice, about the profile of patients he sees or how he treats them. You may also want to have the doctor to agree to a key product message you intend to deliver. Quantitative objectives may include the number of prescription you want the doctor to produce or the number of patients he may try your product.

A good pre-call plan will allow you to directly influence the flow of the call because you already have the outline in whichever way the call should go. Your strategy should include assessments of his current prescribing status:

1. Awareness
2. Interest
3. Trial
4. Usage

Was he still in the awareness stage or has he already moved on the interest phase? You can indicate in your plan your desire to upgrade his prescribing continuum to trial phase and that desire should be accompanied by what types of questions to use, or what materials to utilize and what message to emphasize.

The actual selling starts with Opening. Opening is the skill of obtaining the doctor’s attention. It is the introduction phase wherein you capture the attention of the audience and makes them want to listen to and/or want to know more about you, your company and most especially, your product.

Your opening strategy should have a link in your previous call, known patient conditions or it may contain a reference to current events, such as politics, weather, showbiz, etc. If you are going to use current events, you must be able to link or bridge it to a feature or benefit of your product. But, if it’s going to be your first visit to the doctor, introducing yourself and your company will suffice.
In the example below, we will be using a hypothetical product called TUCOX, a cox-2 specific inhibitor. Cox-2 specific inhibitors are a kind of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug or NSAID that has fewer side-effects than traditional NSAIDs such as diclofenac and naproxen.

Example of an Opening Strategy:
PMR: Doctor, I’m sure that you would agree that the onset of action is very important when choosing medicines to address pain.
MD: Yes!
To have an in-depth understanding of your customer, you should ask questions that will provide you with information regarding his practice. A good probing strategy is needed for this. Probing is the skill of uncovering customer needs, belief and concerns.

There are three types of probes. An open probe is a type of questioning strategy where the ultimate goal is to allow the doctor to freely express himself. This is usually used inthe beginning of your questioning or with a very communicative customer. Closed probes are a type of questioning answerable by yes or no. This type is mainly used in “funneling technique”, a series of probes to uncover specific areas of concerns. The third type is choice probes. This type of probe is similar to the closed probe in uncovering specific customer concerns but it uses options to pinpoint the concern.

Example of a Probing Strategy:
PMR: Doctor, in pain management what do you usually use?
MD: It depends on the case…
PMR: What about in post-operative pain, do you use Cox-2 inhibitors?
MD: Of course!
Once you have identified the need of the doctor, you must tailor fit your response. Do not divert the flow of the conversation or you may run the risk of annoying the doctor. Stick to the topic, and with sufficient product knowledge, you can win the confidence of the doctor. Issues and concerns sometimes arise from your interaction with the doctor. This may be due to various reasons, such as real objections, misconceptions or skepticism about the claims of your product.

Example of Handling Concerns:
MD: I seldom use Cox-2 inhibitors because of cardiovascular complications.
PMR: Doctor, why did you say that it causes cardiovascular complications?
MD: Well, there have been several studies about it and the FDA had issued warnings about them.
PMR: I understand your concern, but what if I can show you that my product, Tucox, have comparable cardiovascular risk profile with that of diclofenac and naproxen, would you be interested?
MD: Yes!
Delivering the message requires you to master the contents of the detail aid. You should not relay all the contents of the material to the doctor. You only have to highlight a key message relevant to the topic being discussed. Key messages should also be translated to benefit in order for that feature to be more appreciated.

Example of Message Delivery:
PMR: Doctor, Tucox is a highly selective Cox-2 inhibitor with rapid onset of action and long duration of effects, allowing your patients Freedom from Pain.
MD: Is that so…
PMR: Yes doctor, aside from its fast on long-lasting action, Tucox is generally well tolerated. In fact, studies show that Tucox has the same cardiovascular risk profile with diclofenac and naproxen.
MD: Wow, Tucox is indeed better...
In Closing, you should be aware of the signals that are indicative of when you will conclude the call. You may have uncovered a need from your probing strategy and had provided the feature and benefit of the product that satisfies that need. If the doctor agrees or is satisfied with the feature or benefit of your product, you may then close the call by paraphrasing or reviewing the agreed benefits and then ask the doctor if he may prescribe the product to the appropriate patients.

Example of a Closing Strategy:
PMR: Doctor, since we have agreed that Tucox will provide your patient with fast and long-lasting action that will give your patients Freedom from Pain, would you prescribe Tucox to your next patient suffering from acute pain?
MD: Yes...
Once the call concluded and have left the doctor’s clinic, a review of what has transpired should take place. Ask them yourself if you have elicited the expected response planned in your pre-call objective? If not, what would you do differently next time? The result of your post-call analysis will be the basis for your pre-call on your next visit to the doctor.

Imagine yourself commuting one day and you felt really hungry, and you see this Minute Burger stall where you buy a burger by just tapping your card or scanning a code. Later, you ride a bus, and to pay for the fare, you just tapped your card. Then you have to transfer to MRT on the way to Makati, again you tapped your card to pay. Super convenient, right?

I was in Hong Kong recently and one of the good things I experienced is how locals and tourist pay for goods and services. What amazed me is that cashless payments are so widespread you can virtually buy anything by tapping your Octopus Card!

Yes, I know. you can do that with your debit card, credit card, and we have our own version from different competing companies such as Globe and Smart. But the difference there in Hong Kong is that you can use only one card to pay for everything! And the payment terminals are available everywhere! Yes, retail shops, fast food, food kiosks, trains, MTRs, everywhere!

How I wish that is the case here in the Philippines. There should be a universal payment portal, regardless of the card issuer. How hard can that be? We already have the technology available so what the hell are they waiting for?

Right now, we have competing companies, such as Globe's G-Cash, Smart's Paymaya, Beep Cards, and some other companies who wanted a piece of the pie. And now, they are scratching their heads why Filipinos are too slow in adopting these services. The Answer is right in front of them. They need to make sure that vendors micro, medium or large they may be, should have their own payment portal. Again imagine a Balot bender who accepts cash-less payment? Far fetched? I don't think so. If the vendor has a smartphone and access to cheap internet data where he can use his accounts, it is possible!

So here's my suggestion: All big companies engaged in financial tech should create a consortium to give cashless payment portals to all types of vendors. They work out their inter-operability and all that shit and roll it out. Then they will see an influx of cardholders who don't want to keep a large amount of cash in their wallets.

A man from Tinglayan, Kalinga was recently arrested when policemen found a large duffle bag of Marijuana. But unlike many caught traffickers out there, this guy tried to use a selling technique known as Benefit Selling technique.

Here's how he tried to use benefit selling:
...it can eradicate anxiety, depression, low self esteem, it (will) make you s creative, talaga! So, ang isa pang pinaka brighter side neto, ang Pilipinas, u-unlad, kayang maging one-is to-one ang Peso to Dollar, you wanna know why? Because ito yung magiging, uh, port of exchange. So, para magkaroon tayo ng mga imported goods for our industry, kailangan nating makipag palitan ng Marijuana natin na hindi tumutubo sa bansa nila, na sa atin lang tumutubo.
The man also expressed his disappointment about why the plant was made "illegal, where in fact it's not even dangerous to your health. It's all organic. It can make you calm." He also tried to explain the two types of Marijuana and allegedly, he is selling Sativa, a less-addicting variant than Indica, a more stronger variant.

Social media was quick praising the man about his passion and dedication to his business. Netizens praised him for being a good salesman. So what makes him a good salesman and what makes him bad? Let's assume first that he is selling something legal here. Well, points for him for being passionate about his product. But other than that, he started with all the benefits before the features. He should have started with this:
There are two types of Marijuana, Sativa and Indica. I'm selling Sativa because it's less addicting but it can greatly help with anxiety, depression and low self esteem...

Also, he first mentioned Hemp. Although belonging to the Cannabis family, Hemp is different from Marijuana. Hemp is totally different from marijuana in its function, cultivation an, application. He got it right when he said that Hemp can produce oil and textile. In fact, Hemp is used for automobiles, body care, clothing, construction, food, plastic, etc. But the problem is, what is he really selling? Hemp or Marijuana?

At the end of the video, he stated that he will fight to make Marijuana legal in the Philippines. Good luck with that, buddy!
